Mother Scarlett Faulkner Fights for Life After Savage Roadside Assault in Tipperary

A young mother is battling for survival after being subjected to a vicious roadside attack in County Tipperary over the weekend. Scarlett Faulkner, who is in her twenties, was discovered with catastrophic head injuries on the side of the R494 roadway at Birdhill on Saturday evening.

Critical Condition and Hospital Transfers

Ms Faulkner was initially attended to by HSE paramedics at the scene before being airlifted by a Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter to University Hospital Limerick. Garda Investigation and Forensic Examination

Gardaí have cordoned off the scene near Birdhill, a location situated between the lakeside towns of Ballina and Killaloe, and closed the R494 roadway in both directions to allow forensic investigators to conduct a thorough technical examination. The attack is believed to have occurred around 5:30 PM on Saturday, with Ms Faulkner possibly targeted by one or multiple assailants armed with weapons.

Investigators are exploring several theories, including the possibility that Ms Faulkner was travelling in a vehicle that was rammed by another car. She may have been dragged from her car and attacked with implements at the roadside. A Garda spokeswoman emphasised the ongoing nature of the investigation, appealing for witnesses who were on the R494 between Birdhill and the M7 motorway between 5 PM and 6 PM on March 21st, 2026.

"Any road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, are urged to make it available to investigating Gardaí," the spokeswoman stated. Information can be provided to Nenagh Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any local Garda station.

Community and Family Appeals

Ms Faulkner is described as a respected member of a Traveller family from Limerick city. The attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, with social media flooded with tributes and appeals for her recovery. One post read, "Plz god beautiful mother Teresa and saint pio and saint Anthony this girl Scarlett Faulkner will be ok."

As the investigation continues, Gardaí are treating the assault with the utmost seriousness, working to piece together the events leading to this brutal incident. The family's plea for prayers underscores the gravity of Ms Faulkner's injuries and the hope for her survival amidst this tragedy.
