A senior official appointed by Donald Trump has unleashed a blistering verbal assault on fellow conservatives, escalating an internal feud within the MAGA movement over the perceived failure to prosecute Democrats linked to January 6 investigations.
‘You Are Ho*s’: Dhillon’s Explosive Retort to Critics
Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon has become a focal point for conservative anger. Critics, including prominent online voices, are furious that the Justice Department has not pursued criminal charges against Democrats involved in the prosecution of January 6 rioters. They fear the window for legal action is closing.
This frustration boiled over when detractors targeted Dhillon for posting vacation photos of herself knitting. In a furious response on social media platform X, Dhillon dismissed the critics as profiteers of misinformation. “‘Conservative’ influencers, if you think you are ‘keeping the pressure on’ or ‘winning’ by spreading bullsh** attacks on [President Donald Trump's] hand-picked cabinet, you are not,” she wrote. “You are earning money to spread misinformation. You are ho*s. Learn an honest profession!”
The Legal Battle Over Time Limits
At the heart of the dispute is a fundamental clash over the statute of limitations. Dhillon insists her critics misunderstand the law. She argues there is still significant time to potentially bring cases.
According to Dhillon, the deadline to counter-prosecute members of the House Select Committee on the Capitol riot ‘potentially’ does not expire until mid-2026. She further claims the Department of Justice has until 2027 to prosecute former special counsel Jack Smith. Other alleged crimes, she suggests, have even longer limits that would extend into the next presidential administration.
However, legal experts note the case for criminally charging Democrats for their legislative or prosecutorial actions related to January 6 is exceptionally weak, as the law largely shields such decisions from liability.
Mounting Pressure on Trump’s Allies
The anger is not directed at Dhillon alone. Attorney General Pam Bondi, a close Trump ally, is also facing intense criticism from the right flank for the lack of counter-prosecutions. Online, the sentiment is raw. One X user demanded, “Charge the dems for their J6 insurrection before it’s too late and you really anger us even more!!?” Another jabbed, “I think the problem is that by this stage in the Biden presidency 700 J6 political prisoners were in the gulag.”
Dhillon defended the DOJ’s handling of the so-called ‘weaponization’ claims and praised Bondi’s leadership. Appearing on The Charlie Kirk Show, she lamented, “I wish people would just get a life… and try to be honest instead of trying to make money off the desperation of a less-informed populace.”
The controversy unfolds in the shadow of a significant act by Trump himself: shortly after taking office, he pardoned over 1,500 individuals charged with crimes relating to the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. This internal rift highlights the ongoing and volatile debate within the Republican base about how to respond to the legal aftermath of that day.
