Strictly's Alex Kingston feared career over after cancer diagnosis
Alex Kingston feared career over after cancer

Strictly Come Dancing star Alex Kingston has revealed she feared her career was over after being diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2024. The 63-year-old actress, known for her roles in ER and Doctor Who, underwent a hysterectomy and radiation therapy to treat the disease. Although the cancer is now successfully treated, Kingston admitted she felt she had let down the production team of a project she withdrew from following her diagnosis.

Return to acting and Strictly

Kingston has since returned to the screen in the upcoming ITV spy thriller Secret Service and competed in Strictly Come Dancing last year, where she reached week 10. Speaking about her experience, she said: 'I thought I would never get another job ever again. It was a terrifying time.'

Delayed seeking medical help

The actress initially delayed seeking medical attention for symptoms such as bloating and achiness. She only sought help after noticing blood in her urine and experiencing a haemorrhage while performing in a play. Kingston urged others not to ignore similar symptoms and to get checked early.

Criticism of Craig Revel Horwood

Kingston also criticised Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood for a 'mean-spirited' comment he made during her time on the show. After her Salsa performance, Horwood remarked it looked like a 'midlife crisis'. Kingston described the comment as unnecessary and hurtful, especially given her recent health struggles.

Despite the challenges, Kingston remains positive about her future, both in acting and dancing. She expressed gratitude for the support from fans and colleagues during her recovery.
