Helena Bonham Carter has left the production of season four of The White Lotus, only days after filming commenced in the South of France. The 59-year-old actress was set to join an ensemble cast that included Heather Graham, Sandra Bernhard, Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, and Rosie Perez.
Creative Differences Lead to Departure
HBO released a statement confirming Carter's exit, citing creative differences regarding her character. The network explained that once filming began, it became clear that the role created by Mike White for Bonham Carter did not align with the production's vision.
Role to Be Recast
The premium cable broadcaster revealed that the character is being rethought, rewritten, and will be recast in the coming weeks. A representative for Carter declined to comment when approached by the Daily Mail.
HBO Expresses Regret
In their statement, HBO noted: 'HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.' The show, an anthology series set in exotic locations each season, had begun production on its fourth installment last week.
