Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has undergone a second procedure on his right ankle, three months after suffering the injury and having an initial surgery on it. Nix suffered a broken ankle in the Denver Broncos' 33-30 overtime win over the Bills in an AFC Divisional clash back in January, bringing an abrupt end to his postseason.
It meant Jarrett Stidham came in for the AFC Championship loss to the New England Patriots, with the Broncos falling agonizingly short in a 10-7 loss in the snow. Nix, meanwhile, went under the knife following a visit to Dr Norman Waldrop III and returned to practice last week for a second procedure, according to ESPN.
The outlet claims that Nix is still expected to be ready for the Broncos' training camp, however his participation in their offseason program could be limited. Following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft on Saturday, Denver head coach Sean Payton insisted that they were 'excited' about Nix's recovery progress.
Payton added: 'He had a recheck that was scheduled. He's doing great. We're excited about his progress. Nothing to report.' Meanwhile, Denver's general manager George Paton insisted, last month, that Nix was 'ahead of schedule' when discussing the matter at the annual league meeting.
Nix suffered the ankle injury on January 17 and, at the time, expressed optimism over the timeline for his eventual return. 'It'll be absolutely no issue this offseason, I'll be able to actually start training back when I was going to start training, so don't miss any time there. I'm going to train really hard,' Nix added.
Despite the injury, it hasn't been a quiet offseason at all for Nix, who welcomed his first child with his wife, Izzy Nix. Izzy gave birth to their daughter, Riley Belle, on February 25, which also happens to be Nix's birthday. Izzy, who married the NFL star in 2022, announced the happy news on Instagram on Wednesday, sharing a series of adorable photos of their new bundle of joy.
'Riley Belle Nix arrived on her dad's birthday - 2/25/26 at 4:45pm, 6 lbs 11 oz,' she wrote in the caption. 'The best birthday party I've ever been to!!!!!!' She added: 'We are overwhelmed by the goodness of God and immeasurable joy that we have experienced this week! Thank you, Jesus, for choosing us to shepherd over her life.'
The new parents were pictured cradling their sweet newborn in the hospital, with Nix sporting a 'Girl Dad' cap as he lovingly draped an arm around his wife's shoulders. In another snap, the Broncos star could be seen carrying his new daughter out of the hospital.
