The Dark Underbelly of Britain's Premier Male Strip Show
For generations, the chiselled, oiled physiques of Dreamboys performers have captivated female audiences, triggering screams of delight and establishing the troupe as Britain's definitive answer to the legendary Chippendales. Their provocative stage performances propelled members to international celebrity status, with even Princess Diana reportedly blushing during a memorable encounter at Whitehall Palace where dancers appeared scantily clad as mythological deities.
A Troubling Pattern Emerges
Beneath the surface glamour and adulation, however, a disturbing pattern of violence and tragedy has emerged, casting a long shadow over the troupe's glittering reputation. Last week marked the latest chapter in this troubling narrative when former Dreamboys dancer George Goodayle, aged 47, surrendered to authorities following the discovery of his 49-year-old partner Jayne Nicholson deceased at their rural French residence.
The construction worker, who performed under the stage name 'Gorgeous George', has been remanded in custody and faces allegations of fatally shooting his girlfriend with a hunting rifle on March 15. Goodayle maintains his innocence, claiming the incident was accidental, but this case represents merely the latest in what some have termed the 'Dreamboys curse'.
Violent History Within the Ranks
The troupe's former proprietor David Richards received a 27-year prison sentence in 2023 for attempting to murder his estranged model girlfriend Alex Alam with an axe. Richards had concealed himself for hours outside Alam's Essex home before launching a brutal ambush as she walked her dogs, leaving the young mother with a fractured skull, facial lacerations, and injuries requiring approximately 100 stitches.
The attack occurred after Richards witnessed Alam kissing reality television personality Kirk Norcross. Following his emotional sentencing at Chelmsford Crown Court, Richards was discovered deceased in his cell at Lowdham Grange prison in Nottinghamshire mere months later. Throughout their nine-year relationship, which included co-owning a luxurious property with stables, Richards had exhibited abusive behaviour toward Alam, who had repeatedly reported him to police for alleged coercive control.
Further Incidents and Controversies
In 2017, Dreamboys performer Tyson Cross faced immediate dismissal following allegations of assaulting two female club patrons at Manchester's Tiger Tiger venue. The incident occurred during a 21st birthday celebration when Cross allegedly became aggressive after the women declined his advances, reportedly pushing one attendee to the ground.
That same year, fellow performer Lotan Carter, previously romantically linked to Lauren Goodger, generated headlines when ejected from the Big Brother house for intimidating behaviour. The stripper, who famously insured his penis for £12 million, engaged in an explosive confrontation with housemate Isabelle Warburton, resulting in his removal from the programme and subsequent dismissal from Dreamboys.
Tragic Outcomes and Criminal Activities
Tragedy struck the organisation in 2016 when former member Ghent Wakefield was discovered deceased at his Staffordshire residence at just 35 years of age. A subsequent inquest suggested the fanatical bodybuilder may have perished from insulin misuse, a substance he reportedly employed to enhance his physique after his wrestling aspirations were dashed by a biceps injury.
Following his athletic disappointment, Wakefield turned to criminal enterprise, establishing a fraudulent construction company with former Army corporal Paul Hackney to execute a lucrative VAT fraud scheme. Prior to his untimely death, Wakefield had served a 17-month prison sentence for conspiracy to cheat HM Revenue and Customs.
Behind the Curtain Revelations
Founder Barry Solomons, known professionally as Bari Bacco, detailed the troupe's off-stage antics in a revealing memoir, describing how performers 'bonked their way across Europe' between performances, treating admirers as disposable commodities. Created in 1987 following Solomons' inspiration from Nick Kamen's iconic Levi's launderette advertisement, Dreamboys cultivated an image of irresistible masculinity that now stands juxtaposed against a troubling legacy of violence and misfortune affecting numerous former members.
