Emmerdale's latest episode delivered a sinister twist as Dr Todd revealed her true intentions for Charity Dingle, resorting to blackmail after uncovering her baby lie on the ITV soap.
Dr Todd's Blackmail Plot
Dr Todd turned to blackmail on Thursday, continuing her campaign against medical student Jacob Sugden. But this time, her target was not Jacob himself—Charity Dingle faced the brunt of her wicked schemes. Charity was horrified to realize that Dr Todd had discovered her baby secret.
After a traumatic birth this week, Charity welcomed baby Leyla into the world. Jacob and his wife Sarah Sugden, Charity's granddaughter, believe they are Leyla's parents. However, the truth is that Charity slept with Ross Barton and became pregnant with his child. Charity had agreed to be a surrogate for Sarah and Jacob, but the embryo transfer was unsuccessful.
Only a handful of people know the truth, and Sarah and Jacob remain unaware that their baby is not biologically their own. Charity's husband Mack Boyd also has no idea about her fling with Ross or that she is carrying his child.
Dr Todd Uncovers the Truth
Dr Todd overheard an incriminating conversation between Ross and Chas Dingle, which revealed that Ross was the father, not Jacob. Digging into Charity and baby Leyla's files, she confirmed that Leyla could not be Jacob's child. After confronting Charity, it became obvious that the baby was Charity and Ross's, and Charity was keeping this from Sarah and Jacob.
Amid Jacob's HR complaint about his bullying boss, Dr Todd took action. She promised to keep Charity's secret while hinting she could reveal it at any time. But her silence came at a cost involving Jacob: Dr Todd told Charity that she would stay quiet if Charity convinced Jacob to drop his complaint.
Charity's Intervention
Charity soon advised Jacob that he might have misread the situation and taken Todd's behavior the wrong way. As he protested, Charity warned him that going up against Todd could ruin his career. She urged him to think of baby Leyla and Sarah and to withdraw the complaint to keep his head down. Jacob then informed Todd that he had dropped the complaint, leaving her thrilled.
However, as Jacob walked away, Dr Todd made a sinister threat, confirming that her torment was far from over. Falsely promising a "fresh start," she told Manpreet Sharma: "Poor Jacob. Little does he know his biggest lessons are still to come."
