Mick Jagger has still not transferred a £13million Georgian mansion to his ex-wife Jerry Hall, 26 years after the couple separated, it can be revealed. The Rolling Stones frontman purchased the imposing Downe House as the couple's London base in the early 1990s for around £5million.
When the rock star and the Texan model went their separate ways in 1999, it was widely assumed that Hall would keep the 18th-century home in Richmond, south west London, where she is still believed to reside. However, Land Registry documents show that the property was placed in their joint names in 2000 after their split, and both remain joint owners to this day, despite both having since been in other relationships.
Hall married media tycoon Rupert Murdoch in 2016 and divorced him in 2022, while Jagger was in a long-term relationship with L'Wren Scott until her suicide in 2014 and is now engaged to ballet dancer Melanie Hamrick. Hall began dating Jagger in 1977, and the pair have four children: Elizabeth, 42, James, 40, Georgia May, 34, and Gabriel, 28.
In 1999, their partnership was annulled on the grounds that their 1991 Hindu marriage on the Indonesian island of Bali was not legally binding under English law. At the time of their separation, the supermodel was reportedly seeking a £30million share of Jagger's £150million fortune, which was understood to include Downe House.
It was reported in 2013 that Hall was eager for Jagger to transfer the house—which dates from 1780 and overlooks Richmond Park—into her sole name so she could sell it or pass it on to their children. A source then said: "It is a source of increasing concern to her as she gets older. When she broke up with Mick in 1999, it was assumed that he had given Downe House to her as part of the settlement their lawyers thrashed out, but, to this day, his name as well as hers still appears on the official documents as the registered owners."
Speculation arose that when Hall married Murdoch, she would be asked to move out—a rumour reinforced when workmen appeared at the house to change the locks in 2016. However, it transpired that this was simply a security upgrade, and Jagger had told Hall she could stay in the property until her death. Documents confirm this arrangement, with both Jagger and Hall still named as joint owners. No mortgage is mentioned, hinting that the property was bought outright.
Jagger has a considerable property portfolio, with another home in London as well as properties in Florida, France, and the private celebrity haven of Mustique. Meanwhile, Hall is the sole owner of Holmwood, a £10million country house in Oxfordshire she purchased in 2019 while still married to Murdoch.
