Storage Wars star Darrell Sheets 'terrorized' before death

Darrell Sheets' former Storage Wars castmates have revealed that the late star was 'terrified for his life' due to relentless cyberbullying before his tragic death at age 67 on April 22. The television personality appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to a press release from the Lake Havasu Police Department obtained by the Daily Mail.

Cyberbullying Claims

New details have emerged about the last months of Sheets' life, with resurfaced Facebook posts showing he claimed to be a victim of a 'cyber bully stalker.' Laura and Dan Dotson, who starred alongside Sheets on the A&E reality show, told Us Weekly that the cyberbullying had been ongoing for 'three years.'

'Cyberbullying is a real thing,' Laura said, adding that it can affect 'even strong men that you think aren't gonna get their feelings hurt.' She explained that the harassment 'made him feel less than, and it really obviously bothered him. He was terrified for his life [and] for the people around him. He didn't know why he was being targeted.'

Laura also mentioned there were 'other things' in his life, including 'relationships, love interests and stuff that would go up and down,' but emphasized that 'he truly, truly was a wonderful, loving person who believed in God.'

Social Media Posts

Resurfaced posts from Sheets' Facebook page offer a glimpse into the turmoil he suffered before being found dead. Sheets claimed he had fallen victim to a 'cyber bully stalker' who hid behind hundreds of 'spoof numbers' and online aliases. He accused the alleged stalker of impersonating him, harassing small businesses, and extorting money from several people.

On March 9, Sheets posted that he had been 'hacked by a very evil person' who was uploading posts from a fake account. He insisted he was 'not gay' and had 'made no post about any children’s arcade owner,' adding that the tormentor had 'ruined' him to the point that 'people are showing up to my work and wanting to harm me.'

Two days later, in his final Facebook post, Sheets painted a chilling picture of a three-year online campaign. He asserted that his alleged stalker had 'been going after other small businesses in town and harassing them using my name,' and had 'extorted money from many people in this town acting like a handyman.' He added that 'the things he says are very damaging,' and explained he was posting in case 'anything happens to me.'

Investigation and Reactions

Following his death, friend and co-star Rene Nezhoda urged law enforcement to look into the cyberbullying. A police spokesman confirmed to Page Six: 'We are aware of these cyberbullying accusations and that is a part of the active investigation.' Lake Havasu City Police Department Public Information Officer Sergeant Kyle Ridgeway also confirmed that the accusations are part of the probe.

Dan Dotson took to Instagram on Wednesday, sharing a throwback photo with Sheets and writing: 'RIP Darrell Sheets. You're in our hearts and minds. The world is going to miss you brother.'

Death Details

Police responded to a call regarding a deceased individual at Sheets' residence in the early hours of Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was taken to the Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office. The incident remains under active investigation.

Sheets, who appeared on Storage Wars across 13 seasons and last featured in 2023, had been residing in Lake Havasu City after retirement and ran an antique store called Havasu Show Me Your Junk. He also appeared on shows like Rachael Ray and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In 2019, he revealed on Instagram that he had suffered a 'mild heart attack.'
