A TikTok-famous takeaway in Camden, locked in a bitter feud with neighbours over late-night anti-social behaviour, has stated that it is not responsible for controlling customers once they leave the premises. Lebanese Grill Express, which has been at the centre of complaints since opening in 2021, continues to operate until 1 am despite its late-night licence being revoked last November.
Neighbours' complaints
Residents have described the area near the takeaway on Leather Lane as a 'hub for delinquents' and compared it to the 'Wild West'. Complaints include fights, loud music played until the early hours, littering, and deliveries starting as early as 5:30 am. Despite years of documented complaints to Camden Council and the Met Police, the takeaway has continued its operations.
Previous meetings and licence review
A meeting in 2021 between owners, residents, police, and the council failed to resolve issues. At a later meeting in 2023, the owner allegedly accused police and council of incompetence and residents of racism. In November 2024, the late-night licence was revoked due to pollution and nuisance, but an appeal allows the takeaway to trade until the hearing in August.
Manager's response
Manager Zack Khan denied claims of loud music and said the business tells customers to turn off music or risk not being served. He argued that litter collection is a goodwill gesture, not a duty, and blamed the council for insufficient bins. Khan also reiterated accusations of racism, stating that harmless black youths are unfairly targeted.
Food hygiene rating
In February, the takeaway received a zero-star food hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency, citing major improvements needed in food handling, cleanliness, and safety management. Khan claimed the low rating was due to inaccessible documents and expects a re-inspection to restore the previous four-star rating.
Resident and authority statements
Melanie Tew, chair of the Bourne Estate Tenants and Residents Association, said the community has been destroyed. The Met Police confirmed increased patrols and support for licence revocation. A Camden Council spokesperson stated the licence was removed due to ongoing noise and disturbance, but the appeal allows continued trading.
