Trump Praises Secret Service After Shots at Dinner

President Donald Trump praised the Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift response after a shooter opened fire at the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton Hotel on Saturday evening. Following his evacuation from the venue alongside other administration officials, the president took to Truth Social to describe it as “quite an evening” and suggested that the annual dinner should proceed as planned.

Shooter Apprehended

“The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we ‘LET THE SHOW GO ON,’ but will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement,” Trump wrote at approximately 9:20 p.m. He added, “Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned, and we’ll just, plain, have to do it again.”

Details of the Incident

Shortly after appetizers were served, an individual fired several gunshots near the security checkpoint of the event, plunging the ballroom into a temporary lockdown. Journalists, including reporters from The Independent, took cover beneath tables. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the immediate aftermath. The incident prompted a heightened security presence, and authorities continue to investigate the motives behind the attack.
