US Lawmakers Demand Sarah Ferguson Testify Under Oath in Epstein Probe

Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York, is under escalating pressure from United States officials who are investigating the handling of Jeffrey Epstein's prosecution. Congressmen have publicly called for Ferguson to provide sworn testimony regarding her knowledge of the convicted paedophile, with one lawmaker stating they would accommodate her terms if she speaks under oath.

Mounting Calls for Testimony

Suhas Subramanyam, a congressman on the House Oversight Committee, has explicitly stated that Ferguson possesses "information related to the investigation" and should testify before the committee. He emphasised to the BBC that lawmakers are prepared to negotiate terms that suit her, provided she gives evidence under oath. This development shifts attention from her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who has also faced repeated demands to answer questions about his association with Epstein.

Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury has echoed these calls, asserting that if Ferguson or any family member has relevant information, they should cooperate to ensure justice for survivors. Sky Roberts, brother of the late Virginia Giuffre—who claimed she was trafficked to Mountbatten-Windsor—has urged Ferguson to testify 'immediately' if she knows anything. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor vehemently denies all allegations made against him by Ms Giuffre.

Revelations from Epstein Files

Emails released as part of the Epstein files in January have exposed Ferguson's prolonged friendship with the financier, contradicting her earlier public statements. The correspondence shows she repeatedly begged Epstein for cash, referred to him as a "supreme friend," and appeared to visit him in Florida with her daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, shortly after his release from prison in 2009 for child sex crimes.

Further emails reveal Ferguson telling Epstein, "I am at your service. Just marry me," and making crude comments about her daughter Eugenie's love life. She described Epstein as the "brother I have always wished for" and even called him a "legend," with many exchanges dated after his 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a child. In 2009, while Epstein was still incarcerated for soliciting sex from a minor, Ferguson contacted him regarding her business, Mother's Army, seeking his assistance and offering him a stake in the firm.

Legal and Public Fallout

Ferguson has not been seen in public for over six months, since September 2025, when she was photographed leaving Royal Lodge in Windsor. She and her ex-husband have since been evicted from the property. Speculation suggests she has spent time abroad, including in the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, and Ireland, amid the scandal. The controversy erupted last September when it emerged she had written to Epstein as a "supreme friend" despite publicly disowning him, leading several charities to drop her as a patron.

Legally, Ferguson cannot be compelled to testify in the US, and being named in the Epstein files does not indicate wrongdoing. However, Jonathan Coad, a media lawyer who has represented her, told the BBC there is "no chance" she would go to the US, advising against it due to potential repercussions for her, her daughters, and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Broader Implications and Andrew's Situation

Meanwhile, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor continues to face demands to testify about his Epstein links. Previously, Congressman Subramanyam accused him of 'hiding' after being summoned. The Mirror has revealed that former Conservative Home Secretary Dame Priti Patel blocked a US Department of Justice request in 2020 to "compel" Mountbatten-Windsor to answer questions under the mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT). The request cited FBI evidence suggesting he had knowledge of Epstein's offending.

Mountbatten-Windsor has not been seen publicly in weeks since his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office, related to allegations he shared confidential information with Epstein during his tenure as a trade envoy. He is believed to be residing at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate, after being evicted from Royal Lodge. Recent sightings of removal vans from Gander & White, an art logistics company with a royal warrant, at Marsh Farm on the King's estate indicate he may be moving there permanently, with boxes labelled 'HRH' being transported—a title he was stripped of in 2022 by the late Queen.
