Bipartisan Pressure Mounts Over Epstein Photo in DOJ Files
Democratic and Republican lawmakers are jointly demanding that Donald Trump's top economic adviser, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, testify before Congress regarding his relationship with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. This urgent call comes as a newly emerged photograph from Department of Justice files depicts an individual resembling Lutnick standing alongside Epstein on a tropical island, raising serious questions about the extent of their association.
Photo Deletion Sparks Congressional Outcry
Republican Representative Thomas Massie, who has been instrumental in pushing for the release of the Epstein files, has publicly challenged the DOJ to provide a detailed explanation for why this particular photograph was reportedly deleted from the department's official website. In a post on the social media platform X, Massie expressed his concerns, stating, 'I’m sure there’s a good reason for this. DOJ needs to tell Congress who pulled this file down so we can ask them.' His remarks underscore the growing bipartisan scrutiny over the handling of evidence related to Epstein's network.
Contradictions in Lutnick's Testimony
The pressure on Lutnick intensifies following his previous claims in an October interview with the New York Post, where he asserted that he only interacted with Epstein on one occasion because the financier 'grossed' him out. Lutnick emphatically stated, 'I was never in the room with him socially, for business, or even philanthropy. If that guy was there, I wasn’t going ‘cause he’s gross. So I look back at it as a gift. He gave me a gift.' However, this narrative has been contradicted by evidence released in January, when emails from the DOJ revealed that Lutnick visited Epstein's private island for lunch years after he claimed to have severed all ties.
Admissions and Ongoing Investigations
Earlier this month, Lutnick admitted during congressional testimony that he did visit the island with his family, acknowledging the trip that conflicts with his earlier statements. This admission has fueled further investigations and calls for transparency, as lawmakers seek to uncover the full scope of his connections to Epstein. The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment from the Daily Mail regarding the developing situation, leaving many questions unanswered as the story continues to unfold.
