Supporters of Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran's late shah, and those opposing a return to monarchy have been clashing on London streets, creating tensions within the Iranian diaspora and posing challenges for British police.
In Golders Green, north London, Tony Mohraz, also known as 021kid, performed a rap video calling for violence against the Basij, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK). The video has been reported to the Metropolitan Police by Laila Jazayeri, director of the Association of Anglo-Iranian Women in the UK and a prominent MEK supporter, who described it as incitement to murder.
Jazayeri expressed concern over pro-Pahlavi supporters displaying symbols of Savak, the shah's feared secret police, and claimed that restaurant owners in Finchley Road, known as Little Tehran, have faced pressure to display the monarchy's flag. The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are assessing a report of threatening behaviour related to the song.
