Economic Pressures and Global Instability
Britons are bracing for a significant cost-of-living squeeze, exacerbated by conflict in the Middle East and a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. This vital shipping route handles approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and gas, and its disruption has sent global oil prices skyrocketing.
In response to these high prices, the government has frozen fuel duty until September, with a scheduled increase under review. Additionally, average household energy bills are predicted to rise when Ofgem's current price cap expires at the end of June, further straining family budgets.
Spirit of Service and National Renewal
In his message, Sir Keir described Easter as a celebration of hope, new life, and renewal.
