Former President Donald Trump has expressed open delight at the decision by his former ally, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, to resign from Congress. In a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform early on Saturday, 22nd November 2025, Trump repeatedly labelled her a "traitor" and suggested her departure was motivated by fear of a primary challenge he would endorse.
He referred to her as Marjorie "Traitor" Brown, explaining that he was changing her surname because "Green grass turns Brown when it begins to ROT!" Trump claimed her resignation was due to "PLUMMETING Poll Numbers" and not wanting to face a primary challenger. He also cited his refusal to return her "never ending barrage of phone calls" as a reason she "went BAD."
Despite the harsh criticism, Trump concluded his post on a surprisingly conciliatory note, stating: "Nevertheless, I will always appreciate Marjorie, and thank her for her service to our Country! President DJT."
The Stunning Resignation That Rocked Washington
Marjorie Taylor Greene, one of Trump's most prominent and controversial supporters, announced her resignation from Congress in a video message and statement on Friday. Her final day in office will be 5th January.
In her statement, she wrote, "I have too much self respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for." She dramatically added, "I refuse to be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better."
The rift between the two powerful figures had been widening, primarily over Greene's persistent push to release the remaining government files concerning the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Trump had resisted this for months, calling the demands a "Democrat hoax," but eventually relented after a revolt by Republicans led by Greene and Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie.
A Movement Divided: MAGA's Conflicted Response
The news of Greene's impending exit has sent shockwaves through the MAGA movement, revealing significant internal divisions. While some supporters celebrated, others expressed confusion and anger about the direction of their political home.
Thomas Massie, her key ally in the Epstein files effort, said he would miss Greene "tremendously," praising her as a true representative. In contrast, influential right-wing activist Laura Loomer accused Greene of trying to "screw Trump over" by resigning ahead of the midterm elections.
The division was starkly illustrated by right-wing commentator Evan Kilgore, who declared "MAGA is dead" after seeing members of the movement celebrate Greene's resignation. This prompted a fierce rebuttal from Loomer, who asserted her long-standing loyalty to Trump.
