Undisputed heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk has revealed the one and only scenario that could tempt him into a third epic showdown with British rival Tyson Fury.
The Stipulation for a Historic Trilogy
The Ukrainian boxing maestro, who turned 39 in January 2026, has stated he would contemplate a trilogy bout, but only if the undisputed world championship is once more at stake. This condition throws down a significant gauntlet to Fury, who must reclaim a world title to make such a fight possible.
This development follows two monumental clashes between the pair in 2024 which defined an era. In their first historic meeting, Usyk emerged victorious via a points decision after a thrilling contest, crowning him as the undisputed champion. Seven months later, the sequel delivered another tightly-fought battle, with Usyk again edging the decision to solidify his dominance.
Fury's Comeback and Usyk's Future Plans
Following the second defeat, Fury, 37, announced his retirement, only to reverse that decision shortly after. He has since been vocal in his desire for a third fight, insisting it should be held in the United Kingdom after their two lucrative bouts in Saudi Arabia.
Fury has been training intensively in Thailand, aiming for a tune-up fight before the end of April 2026 ahead of a potential summer blockbuster. In a recent social media video, he sent fans into a frenzy by hinting a "massive announcement" regarding his return is imminent, declaring "the return of the Mac is imminent."
However, Usyk's path may first lead him to another legendary heavyweight. The champion has expressed a clear desire to face American powerhouse Deontay Wilder, potentially in front of a record-breaking crowd. "I beat Joshua twice, I beat Fury twice, and one unbeaten one remains — Wilder," Usyk stated, outlining his ambition to conquer the last of the division's modern 'big three'.
A Potential Record-Breaking US Showdown
Stunning reports indicate that San Francisco is planning a world-record boxing event, with YouTube as a key partner, that could accommodate up to 150,000 fans. Organisers plan to transform the Civic Center Plaza into an open-air arena, with the ring constructed before City Hall. Promoters are keen for Usyk to be involved, though the card remains unconfirmed.
Ed Pereira of IVB, the promoters behind the 'Iconic' series, told the Mail: "We are open to working with all promoters... of course we’d be open to speaking to a boxer of that calibre, who wouldn’t want Usyk on their card?" He emphasised the goal is to create a major cultural moment, making the event accessible to casual and hardcore fans alike.
While the door to a Fury trilogy is now slightly ajar, the 'Gypsy King' may have to wait as Usyk pursues other historic challenges, setting the stage for a fascinating 2026 in the heavyweight division.
