Chelsea's Mudryk Faces Four-Year Doping Ban as Shakhtar CEO Reveals Daily Training Regime
Mudryk's Doping Ban Decision Pending as He Trains Daily Amid Low Spirits

Chelsea Star Mykhailo Mudryk Awaits Doping Verdict Amid Intensive Daily Training

The future of Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk hangs in the balance as he faces a potential four-year suspension following a positive test for the banned substance meldonium. According to Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin, Mudryk's spirits are low during this uncertain period, but he remains dedicated to maintaining his fitness through rigorous daily training sessions.

Background of the Doping Allegations and Suspension

Mykhailo Mudryk has not played for Chelsea since 2024 after testing positive for meldonium, a substance prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The Football Association has charged the Ukrainian international with anti-doping breaches, and while a ban of up to four years is possible, the final sanction has yet to be announced. In November, WADA confirmed that disciplinary proceedings from the FA were still pending, leaving Mudryk in limbo.

Palkin, who oversaw Mudryk's rise through Shakhtar's academy and his £88.5 million transfer to Chelsea, expressed confidence that the player's legal team will find a resolution. He emphasized Mudryk's character, describing him as a hard worker who often stayed after training sessions to improve. "For me, it's a big pity what has happened because this guy did everything in his life to stay on the top level," Palkin stated. "It's not fair what's happened to him now, and I believe that his lawyers will find solutions and he will return to football as soon as possible."

Mudryk's Current Training Regime and Mental State

Despite the ongoing suspension, Mudryk has been actively sharing his training progress on Instagram, showcasing individual sessions away from Chelsea's facilities. He has enlisted a goalkeeper and a private coach to assist him, even hiring the 3G pitch at Honeycroft, home to Uxbridge FC in the Southern League Premier Division South. Palkin revealed that Mudryk dedicates almost his entire day to training, adhering to FIFA rules that prevent him from joining team camps.

"He is training by himself because the FIFA rules say you cannot stay in the camp," Palkin explained. "He dedicates almost the whole day to train and to keep himself in a good level, physically and mentally." However, Palkin acknowledged that Mudryk's mood is currently subdued, though the player remains hopeful for a swift return to professional football. "The mood is not so good at this moment but he believes everything should be good and he will return to football as fast as possible," he added.

Support from Shakhtar and Ongoing Meetings

Palkin continues to offer his backing to Mudryk, meeting with him during visits to London to ensure the player feels supported. "From time to time I arrive to London and I meet with him, and I support him because for me, it's very important that he feels that he has people behind him, who support him," Palkin said. This support network is crucial as Mudryk navigates the legal and emotional challenges of the doping case.

The situation underscores the broader implications of doping in sports, with Mudryk's case highlighting the rigorous processes involved in anti-doping investigations. As the football world awaits the FA's decision, Mudryk's commitment to training serves as a testament to his determination to resume his career, regardless of the outcome.
