Man Utd's Ruben Amorim warns squad as Ratcliffe impact revealed
Amorim's Man Utd warning amid Ratcliffe impact

Manchester United are preparing to return to Premier League action with renewed optimism as manager Ruben Amorim sends a clear warning to his squad about the work still required, while acknowledging the significant impact of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's public support.

Amorim's Reality Check for United Squad

The Red Devils enter their Monday clash against Everton riding their longest unbeaten run of Amorim's tenure at five Premier League matches without defeat. This impressive streak has seen United climb from 14th to seventh in the table, with victories against Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton providing the foundation for their resurgence.

However, the Portuguese manager remains cautious about getting carried away. 'We are playing better, but we are playing better because we have more confidence,' Amorim told Stan Sport. 'When we finished the game against Tottenham and I was coming back to Carrington, I was watching the game and my feeling was frustration, that we are far from perfection.'

The 40-year-old emphasised that his much-discussed tactical formation alone won't guarantee success, stressing that desire, confidence and competitiveness are the essential ingredients his players must develop to become consistent winners.

Ratcliffe's Three-Year Promise Pays Dividends

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's public declaration last month that he would grant Amorim three years to transform United's fortunes appears to have had a profound effect on the club's atmosphere. The billionaire co-owner drew parallels with Sir Alex Ferguson's difficult early years and Mikel Arteta's challenging start at Arsenal.

Amorim confirmed the significance of this endorsement, stating: 'But if you remember when Jim gave that interview, that settled down a lot around the club. The noise around the club changed completely. So that was really important for the team and if it's really important for the team, it's really important for me. Those words had a huge impact.'

The manager acknowledged that while Ratcliffe's comments didn't alter his working methods, they significantly changed external perceptions of the project's progress at Old Trafford.

Mbeumo Earns Salah Comparisons

Meanwhile, summer signing Bryan Mbeumo continues to justify his £71million transfer fee after initially struggling to adapt following his move from Brentford. The 26-year-old winger has scored six goals this season, with four coming in his last four league appearances.

Former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has drawn favourable comparisons between Mbeumo and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, particularly praising the Cameroonian's composure in front of goal. 'He reminds me of Mohamed Salah in and around the box,' Hargreaves said. 'When he gets the ball, he has a clear picture of exactly what he wants to do. Whether the finish is near post or back post, he almost shows no emotion.'

As United prepare to face Everton, victory could potentially see them enter the Champions League places for the first time in over a year, depending on other results, marking another significant step in Amorim's rebuilding project.
