Connor Beasley's Spectacular 376-1 Double at Dubai World Cup Meeting

Jockey Connor Beasley delivered a remarkable performance at the prestigious Dubai World Cup meeting, securing a stunning 376-1 double for trainer Ahmad bin Harmash. The achievement was particularly notable as Beasley had been riding at Southwell and Wolverhampton in the preceding week, making his success in the United Arab Emirates even more impressive.

Victorious Rides on Native Approach and Dark Saffron

Beasley first partnered with Native Approach, a 28-1 shot, in the Group One Al Quoz Sprint Sponsored By Azizi Developments. This horse, formerly trained by Charlie Appleby in Newmarket and reinvented as a six-furlong sprinter, proved his 50-1 success at the track on February 28 was no fluke by holding off Lugal by a neck.

"He's a bundle of speed and when I first sat on him at the start of the season I did say to the boss he feels like a sprinter," Beasley commented. "He puts his heart on his sleeve every morning, he's not easy. Once the Japanese horse came to me tonight he was very determined."

Beasley then rode Dark Saffron, a 12-1 chance, to victory in the Dubai Golden Shaheen Sponsored By Nakheel. This win placed Dark Saffron among thoroughbreds like Caller One and Mind Your Biscuits as back-to-back winners of this prestigious race.

Overcoming Challenges and Team Effort

The victory on Dark Saffron was especially satisfying given the horse's recent challenges. "He banged his head and sort of lost his way," Beasley explained about an incident in the gates. "We took the headgear off and tried him on turf, just experimenting to help him regain that confidence. He's a top-quality horse, and it's great to see him back performing at the highest level."

Beasley emphasized the importance of teamwork in his success, stating: "Ahmad has been a big supporter and put plenty of trust in me and it just shows when a team clicks it goes through to the horses as well as the people as well."

Both Meydan winners defeated hot favorites, with Lazzat (5-6f) finishing third behind Native Approach and Bentornato (5-4f) claiming the runner-up spot behind Dark Saffron.

Immediate Return to British Racing

Beasley had little time to celebrate his Dubai triumphs, as he was booked to fly back to Britain immediately for five rides at Doncaster on Sunday. Among these rides was Backspin, priced at 10-1 with the sponsors for division one of the William Hill Epic Boosts Handicap over seven furlongs.

This whirlwind schedule highlights the demanding nature of professional jockeying, with Beasley demonstrating exceptional skill and endurance across continents within days.

Beasley's relationship with trainer Ahmad bin Harmash dates back approximately eight seasons when he first went to the United Arab Emirates to serve as second jockey. This long-standing partnership clearly paid dividends at the Dubai World Cup meeting, showcasing how consistency and trust between jockey and trainer can produce remarkable results on the international racing stage.
