Lucy Bronze Opens Up on England's Euro 2025 Qualifying Struggles: 'We Need to Improve'
Bronze: England must improve for Euro 2025

England defender Lucy Bronze has delivered a candid assessment of the Lionesses' Euro 2025 qualifying campaign so far, admitting the team must improve to secure their place in next year's tournament.

The Barcelona full-back, a key figure in England's Euro 2022 triumph, acknowledged recent performances haven't met expectations following Friday's hard-fought 1-1 draw with Sweden at Wembley.

Mixed Start to Qualifying

"We know we need to be better," Bronze told reporters. "The draw against Sweden showed we're still finding our rhythm in these qualifiers. Every game is crucial now, especially with France coming up."

Sarina Wiegman's side currently sit second in their qualifying group after three matches, having beaten Republic of Ireland 2-0 before the Sweden stalemate. Their opening 1-1 draw with Austria highlighted early teething problems in the campaign.

France Tests Loom Large

The upcoming double-header against group leaders France represents England's toughest challenge yet, with the first meeting scheduled for May 31 in Newcastle.

"France are always one of the strongest teams in Europe," Bronze added. "We'll need to be at our absolute best across both games. The St James' Park atmosphere will help, but we have to deliver on the pitch."

With only the top two teams qualifying automatically for Euro 2025 in Switzerland, England can ill afford further slip-ups in a competitive group that also includes Sweden and Ireland.

Injury Concerns Easing

There was positive news on the injury front as Bronze confirmed her recent knee issue hasn't flared up during international duty.

"I've managed the minutes carefully with Barcelona, and it's holding up well," she said. "The medical staff have been brilliant in getting me ready for these important matches."

The 32-year-old's experience will be vital as England look to build momentum ahead of their July 31 return fixture against France in Saint-Étienne.
