Bryson DeChambeau, the two-time US Open champion, finds himself in a precarious position as LIV Golf reels from the news that its Saudi Arabian backing may be withdrawn. The 32-year-old was among the first PGA Tour players to defect to the breakaway league in 2022, signing a reported £100 million contract. However, four years on, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) appears set to pull its financing, casting doubt on the series' future—a statement regarding which was released on Thursday.
DeChambeau's Wealth and LIV Golf Deal
According to Forbes, DeChambeau's net worth stands at approximately £33 million ($44 million). While he was already a multi-millionaire on the PGA Tour, the guaranteed £100 million from LIV Golf significantly boosted his fortune. The California-born golfer acknowledged the substantial sum but declined to disclose exact figures, stating, "I'm not gonna say the details. For what's reported, it's somewhat close. It's a four-and-a-half year deal, and a lot of it was up front, which is great."
'Broke' Claim
Despite his wealth, DeChambeau raised eyebrows in recent years by claiming he was "broke." He clarified that much of his fortune had been invested in property, his charitable foundation, and a multi-sport facility. "What's cool about it is that I've already put it in places that make sense—whether it's my foundation, real estate, building a multi-sport complex, or taking care of my family and our content creation Regecy. So, it's already moved. I'm again broke," he explained.
LIV Commitment
Before the recent uncertainty, DeChambeau had publicly pledged his allegiance to LIV Golf and disclosed plans to extend his deal. In June, he said, "We're looking to negotiate end of this year, and I'm very excited. They see the value in me, I see the value in what they can provide, and I believe we'll come to some sort of resolution. LIV's not going anywhere. [Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan] has been steadfast in his belief in team golf." However, the future remains unclear following Thursday's explosive revelation.
