Charlie Woods Misses US Open Cut by One Stroke in Crushing Blow
Charlie Woods Misses US Open Cut by One Stroke

Charlie Woods, the 17-year-old son of 15-time Major winner Tiger Woods, suffered a devastating blow as he missed the cut for the US Open final qualifying by a single stroke. Playing at the Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida, Woods recorded an even par 72, finishing tied for 10th and one place shy of a playoff spot.

Narrow Miss Ends Hopes

The young golfer's chance to compete in the final qualifying round for the US Open in June was dashed in heartbreaking fashion. The tournament is one his father has won three times. Despite the disappointment, Woods improved on his last two approaches at the course, but it was not enough to secure a playoff berth.

Commitment to Florida State

Woods, who verbally committed to Florida State University in February, currently sits 14th in the Rolex American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Rankings. He is not due to begin higher education until September 2027. His father previously spoke about the recruitment process, noting the differences from his own era. "We didn't have cell phones. We would have written letters," Tiger said. "It's just a different world."

Previous Success

Charlie won his first AJGA title in May last year, claiming a three-shot victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in Florida. Since that win, he has played in eight tournaments, with his best result being a tied ninth at the Boys Junior PGA Championship. He has managed two top-20 finishes in five subsequent events. His father, by contrast, qualified for his first PGA Tour major at the same age, playing in 13 tournaments from 1991 to 1993 and winning eight times.
