Elgin City Suspend Manager Allan Hale Amid Internal Investigation
Elgin City Suspend Manager Allan Hale Amid Probe

Elgin City have confirmed the suspension of manager Allan Hale with immediate effect, as the SPFL club launches an internal investigation into the Highlanders boss. The announcement came as a shock to fans following the team's final match of the season on Saturday, which saw them finish sixth in League Two, the bottom tier of Scottish professional football.

Statement from Elgin City

The Borough Briggs club released an official statement saying: "Elgin City Football Club can confirm that the first team manager has been suspended from his duties with immediate effect, pending an ongoing investigation. The club will make no further comment until the investigation has concluded."

Hale's Tenure and Achievements

Hale, who previously played for Fraserburgh, took over at Elgin in December 2023 when the club was fighting relegation. He successfully steered them to safety in his first season and then guided them to the play-offs, where they were defeated by Annan Athletic. This season, the team narrowly missed out on another play-off spot, finishing with 44 points from 26 games, including 11 wins, 11 draws, and 14 defeats. The campaign ended with a run of five matches without a victory, culminating in a 1-0 loss to Stranraer on the final day.

Reflecting on the club's long stint in League Two, Hale recently remarked: "We read the narrative about the club being in League 2 for 27 years and people looking at that as a negative. For me I don't think that's a negative at all. I actually think it says a lot about the resilience of the football club." He highlighted the geographical challenges, budget constraints, and travel commitments that make managing Elgin uniquely difficult.

The club has not provided further details regarding the nature of the investigation, and no timeline for its conclusion has been announced.
