Former Chelsea youth player Lamisha Musonda has delivered a devastating update on his health, revealing he may only have a few days left to live. The 33-year-old Belgian shared the heartbreaking news in a social media post, detailing a two-year battle with a serious illness that has left him in a critical condition.
A Heartbreaking Social Media Update
In a deeply emotional message posted on Instagram on Thursday, Musonda opened up about his dire situation. The former midfielder wrote that he has come to grips with the severity of his condition and is now fighting simply to stay alive. He expressed his gratitude for the people who have supported him and cherished the memories of his life, particularly his early years in football.
"As I realise I only have a few days left, I also realise I had a lot of people by my side and I’ll always cherish the memories," Musonda wrote. "Life is hard but the view is great." He described the past couple of years as "tough and gruelling," explaining his absence from social media was due to his struggle to regain his health.
Football Community Rallies with Support
The news prompted an immediate outpouring of support from the football world. Belgian international striker Romelu Lukaku, 32, now at Napoli, posted a public message of encouragement, urging Musonda to show 'courage' and assuring him 'we are with you.'
Former Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia, who served at Stamford Bridge from 2014 to 2022, also commented. She expressed her sincere hope that Musonda would overcome his health struggles, adding that she was thinking of him and his family, and signed off with a blue love heart and a prayer emoji.
A Footballing Family's Journey
Lamisha Musonda began his youth career at Anderlecht before moving to Chelsea's prestigious academy in 2012. He retired from professional football in 2019 at the age of 27, after a career that included spells at Mechelen, Liagostera B, Palamos, and Mazembe. He also earned nine caps for the Belgian Under-21 national side between 2011 and 2013.
Football runs deep in the Musonda family. His brother, Charles Musonda Jr., also came through the Chelsea academy and made seven senior appearances for the Blues before leaving the club in 2022. Another sibling, Tika Musonda, 31, was part of Chelsea's youth setup and now works as a global talent scout for Liverpool. Their father, Charly Musonda Snr., won 48 caps for Zambia and played for Anderlecht during his own career.
In his poignant message, Musonda concluded with a note of love and regret, stating it pained him that he might not get the chance to thank wonderful people face-to-face. His final words were a simple, powerful declaration: "I love you all."
