Darren Fletcher's Twin Sons Jack and Tyler Could Feature for Man Utd vs Burnley
Fletcher's twin sons could play for Man Utd vs Burnley

In a remarkable twist of fate, Manchester United's interim manager Darren Fletcher could be joined in the dugout by two very familiar faces when his side faces Burnley on Wednesday night – his own twin sons.

The Fletcher Dynasty at Old Trafford

Following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, former United midfielder Darren Fletcher has taken temporary charge of the first team. The spotlight, however, extends beyond the 41-year-old Scot, as his 18-year-old sons, Jack and Tyler Fletcher, are firmly in contention for a place in the matchday squad at Turf Moor.

Both teenagers, who will turn 19 in March, have already tasted first-team involvement this season. Jack has made three Premier League appearances, featuring against Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Wolves. Tyler, meanwhile, has been an unused substitute in United's last three league outings, patiently awaiting his senior debut.

Father's Dilemma Over Team Selection

When pressed on the unique possibility of selecting his sons, the interim boss remained coy, adhering to standard pre-match protocol. "That would be disclosing team information before the game and I am not going to do that," Fletcher stated. He confirmed the pair trained with the group on Monday and are part of the peripheral squad, but their final inclusion depends on late fitness checks.

The return of key players complicates the picture. Fletcher confirmed that captain Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount are both in contention after injury, potentially squeezing opportunities for the academy graduates. Nevertheless, the door remains ajar for the promising twins to add to their fledgling United careers.

Twins on Diverging Paths

Despite rising through the same United academy, the brothers have chosen different international allegiances. Jack represents England, while Tyler has opted to play for Scotland, the nation his father represented 80 times. Their rivalry was made real in November when Jack came off the bench to score for England Under-19s against a Scotland side captained by Tyler.

At club level, Jack currently holds a slight edge. He trained with the first team ahead of the season's opener and made several matchday squads last term. Tyler's first Premier League squad inclusion came in December 2025. Both have been stalwarts for the youth sides, featuring heavily in Premier League 2 and the FA Youth Cup run of 2025, where Jack scored crucial goals.

Their styles differ: Jack, a midfielder, has shown a greater eye for goal, while Tyler has excelled as a creative force, racking up numerous assists for the Under-18s.

Regardless of the team he picks, Darren Fletcher has a clear vision for what his United side must represent. "I hope it represents a Manchester United team with a bit of me," he said. "What I know is Manchester United so hopefully it resembles a Manchester United team who fans can be proud of."
