Footballers were forced to push an ambulance across a waterlogged pitch in Romania after the vehicle became stuck in the mud while trying to reach a seriously injured player. The chaotic scenes unfolded during a Romanian second division match between Bihor Oradea and Voluntari on Thursday evening.
Injury and Red Card
Razvan Gunie of Bihor Oradea collided with Voluntari's Alexandru Git, resulting in a reported double leg break for Git. The player lay on the turf screaming in agony as medical staff rushed to his aid. Gunie was shown a red card for the challenge on the slippery surface.
Ambulance Gets Stuck
An ambulance drove onto the pitch to treat Git but quickly became mired in the mud caused by the sodden conditions. The vehicle had already required a push when it first entered the field from the far end. After Git was loaded into the back, the ambulance became completely immobilised, prompting players and staff to push from behind.
Around ten individuals were seen following the vehicle as it trundled back across the pitch and out of the stadium, ready to assist if it became stuck again. Git was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital.
Reaction and Aftermath
Voluntari won the match 2-1, lifting them to second place in Group C, while Bihor Oradea sit fifth out of sixth. Git faces a potential absence of at least nine months due to the severity of his injury. FC Bihor assistant coach Viorel Domocos addressed the incident in his post-match press conference, stating: "It was a difficult moment. Honestly, during that incident, I felt like I was no longer judging clearly. All kinds of things come to mind, especially when you've been through such experiences. I don't wish that on anyone." He added: "We wish him health and hope to see him on the field as soon as possible."
