Manager Condemns 'Unacceptable' Treatment of Keeper

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank delivered a stinging rebuke to sections of the home support who targeted goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with boos and ironic cheers during their 2-1 home defeat to Fulham. The match turned sour for Spurs within the opening six minutes, with Vicario's error directly leading to the second of two quick Fulham goals.

A Dismal Start and a Costly Mistake

The home side's afternoon began in disastrous fashion. Fulham's Kenny Tete and Harry Wilson both found the net in a blistering opening spell, leaving Tottenham with a mountain to climb before many fans had settled into their seats. The second goal, in particular, stemmed from what Frank described as "a mistake from Vic", as the Italian goalkeeper's dreadful error at the back gifted Fulham a decisive advantage.

Vicario's subsequent touches were met with jeers from some supporters, a reaction that drew the ire of his manager. Frank stated, "I didn't like that our fans booed at him straight after. For me that's unacceptable. They can't be true Tottenham fans because everyone supports each other when you're on the pitch." He clarified that while he accepted fan frustration at full-time, he believed turning on a player mid-match was counterproductive to a comeback.

An Apology and a Second-Half Fightback

Responding to the incident, Guglielmo Vicario showed resilience, acknowledging his error while refusing to be defined by it. "It's part of football. I'm a big man," the keeper said. "We cannot be influenced by the situation in the stands. The fans have the right to say what they think. It's up to us to stay calm and focused on ourselves."

Spurs did manage to rally after the break. A goal from Mohamed Kudus offered hope and the team produced a more emotional performance in the second half. However, they could not find an equaliser, extending their poor run of form to just three wins in their last 13 outings across all competitions.

For Fulham, the victory marked a significant milestone: their first away win of the season. Manager Marco Silva declared, "The first half was top. We should have scored more, should have killed the game. That was the reality. The best team won."
