Erling Haaland's agent has revealed she had little bargaining power during negotiations over the striker's new contract with Manchester City, stating the club "don't really need anything."
Haaland's Remarkable Form
The Norwegian striker has been a sensational signing since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. Haaland has scored 160 goals in 195 appearances across all competitions for the Premier League side. The 25-year-old has been linked with moves away, with Real Madrid among those reportedly interested.
New Deal Until 2034
Last season, Haaland committed his long-term future to City by signing a contract extension that keeps him at the Etihad until 2034. Providing insight into those negotiations, his agent Rafaela Pimenta confirmed that City were always in control.
Speaking to ESPN, Pimenta said: "Very serious, they're [City] very organised. They're very big. They know what they're doing, they have a lot of experience, they don't really need anything, they have everything. So we don't have any leverage."
Pimenta on Haaland's Character
Pimenta also praised Haaland's approach to his profession. "He's a lot like us [football agents]," she said. "In his way of being -- it's very informal, very comfortable, very relaxed, very low profile ... Football, for him, is the most serious game you can play."
She added: "I think people often have the impression that the football player's job is easier than it actually is. I often say that high-performance football players have to be very intelligent, so don't underestimate the intelligence of those at the top of the pyramid. He has to be very dedicated."
Potential Summer Moves
While Haaland is expected to stay with City for the foreseeable future, the same may not apply to other players. The summer transfer window is due to open in a few weeks, though the World Cup could impact the market.
When asked about potential effects of the tournament, Pimenta said: "Look, it's hard for me to say that without causing gossip. I'm talking from my head without having any information. I think Liverpool will make a lot of moves. Ajax we already know that it is making a lot of moves, everyone knows that. It is an important club, although it is certainly not a big club like Real Madrid and Barcelona."
