Inter Milan are closing in on a summer transfer for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, with the Italian club's sporting director Piero Ausilio conducting meetings in London this week. The Serie A leaders have been actively searching for an alternative to their current Swiss number one, Yann Sommer, and view Vicario as a prime target to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
Transfer Talks and Fee Expectations
Ausilio is understood to have met with Vicario's agent, Valerio Giufridda, ahead of Inter Milan's Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. Both parties are reportedly confident that a deal can be finalised for a fee in the region of £17 million. This potential transfer comes as Tottenham face a challenging season, with the club threatened by relegation and planning a significant summer overhaul, where acquiring a new goalkeeper is seen as central to their rebuilding efforts.
Vicario's Recent Performance and Career at Tottenham
Guglielmo Vicario, the 29-year-old Italy international, started in Tottenham's recent Champions League match, making some impressive saves in a 3-2 victory. However, this result was insufficient to prevent Spurs from crashing out of the competition, following a 5-2 defeat in the first leg against Atletico Madrid. In that initial match, interim boss Igor Tudor opted to start with backup goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky instead of Vicario, a decision that backfired as Kinsky made two glaring errors within the first 15 minutes and was subsequently substituted.
Vicario joined Tottenham from Empoli in the summer of 2023 for £17.2 million, arriving as a replacement for Hugo Lloris. He initially made a strong impression in the Premier League, but opponents soon began to exploit perceived weaknesses in his game, particularly under high balls and with the ball at his feet. His time at Spurs has been marked by ups and downs, including missing three months of last season due to a broken ankle sustained during a 4-0 win at Manchester City, an injury he played through until the end of the match.

With two years remaining on his current contract at Tottenham, there appears to be a mutual understanding that a summer move would benefit both Vicario and the club.
