Ipswich Town Denies Inviting Farage for Photo Op at Stadium

Ipswich Town Football Club is facing significant criticism after Reform Party leader Nigel Farage conducted a photo opportunity at its Portman Road stadium, with the club asserting it had no prior knowledge of the event's full scope.

Club Unaware of Event Details

According to sources, Ipswich Town did not officially invite Mr Farage for the Monday event. The booking was handled by Portman Road Events, which manages private stadium tours, on behalf of the Reform Party for Monday afternoon. However, the Championship club only became fully aware of what transpired later that day when posts surfaced on the party's official social media accounts.

Social Media Posts Spark Backlash

Reform UK posted "Portman Road Awaits" on X on Monday evening, followed by Mr Farage sharing photos on Tuesday morning. These included images of him 'signing' for Ipswich and holding up a number 10 Ipswich shirt, with the caption: "I've never been too bad on the right wing." The party subsequently made a photo of Mr Farage with the shirt the banner on their official X account.

This incident occurred after Reform held a party rally at nearby Trinity Park. Ipswich Town has declined to comment publicly on the matter.

Supporters Express Outrage

Some supporters have voiced strong criticism on social media, with one describing the situation as "PR suicide for a family club." The backlash highlights concerns over the club's association with political figures and events.

Reform UK has been contacted for comment regarding the photo opportunity and the club's stance. The episode underscores the challenges sports clubs face in managing their public image amid political activities.
