Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Plays Santa to Boost Morale Before Christmas Win
Jerry Jones Dresses as Santa Before Cowboys Victory

In an unconventional move to lift his team's spirits during a disappointing season, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones transformed into Father Christmas for a festive morale boost.

A Festive Surprise from the Owner

On Christmas Eve, the night before a critical NFL matchup against divisional rivals the Washington Commanders, the 83-year-old billionaire owner personally delivered gifts to his players at their team hotel. Jones, dressed in full Santa Claus regalia, aimed to spread some seasonal cheer to a squad that has struggled to meet expectations this year.

"I know this (team) got so much out of it, I'll never forget it," Jones later told Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan, describing the occasion as "a lot of fun." The unusual motivational tactic appeared to pay immediate dividends on the field.

Christmas Day Victory Amid a Tough Season

The inspired Cowboys went on to secure a 30-23 victory over the Commanders on Christmas Day. The win provided a bright spot in what has been a challenging and transitional period for the franchise.

Following the earlier firing of head coach Mike McCarthy and the appointment of Brian Schottenheimer, the team has faced significant upheaval. The trade of star defender Micah Parsons and persistent defensive problems have contributed to a lacklustre 7-8-1 record and elimination from playoff contention.

These defensive issues were evident even in the Christmas victory. After the offence built a commanding 21-3 lead, the Cowboys conceded ten points in the third quarter, causing anxiety for fans before steadying to hold on for the win.

Owner Admits to Season of Underachievement

In a candid assessment after a recent home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Jones acknowledged the team has fallen short of its goals. "Yes, from what we expected, what we thought, absolutely we did. We all underachieved, really," Jones stated. "The fact we're not in the playoffs says that for you."

While he noted some positive aspects to build upon, Jones emphasised the need for thorough changes, saying, "The question is, can we make some changes where we need to? That'd be pretty thorough... with the way we played this year."

The focus for the organisation will now fully shift to next season following their final game on the road against the New York Giants.
