Klopp's Emotional Plea to Liverpool Fans: 'I Mean It'

Jurgen Klopp has issued a new emotional plea to Liverpool fans, emphasising his enduring gratitude and connection to the Anfield faithful. The German manager, who departed the club in May 2024 after a transformative nine-year spell, continues to hold a deep affection for the supporters who backed him throughout his trophy-laden tenure.

Klopp's Heartfelt Message to Supporters

In a recent podcast interview with former Reds striker Peter Crouch, Klopp expressed his sincere thanks to Liverpool fans, stating, "I mean, we had a good time and nobody, I mean it, nobody has to say thank you to me or whatever and I hear it quite often." He added, "Because I have to say thank you for the exact same reasons. I do it all the time when I see people: 'Oh thank you, for supporting us over the years.'"

Klopp reflected on the shared experiences that defined his time at the club, noting, "So it is just what we needed was what we experienced and it just was our life. We tried to do absolutely everything to be as successful as possible and it worked sometimes, sometimes it didn't." He acknowledged both triumphs and setbacks, saying, "We failed big, we failed in moments and the thing is this is what I always wanted, when I am old, looking back and having a smile on my face."

A Legacy of Success and Connection

During his nearly decade-long reign, Klopp secured every major honour available to Liverpool, including the Premier League title in 2020—the club's first league championship in thirty years—and the Champions League trophy in 2019. His ability to forge a special bond with the global Liverpool following remains a hallmark of his legacy.

Klopp recently returned to Anfield for a charity match, where he received a rapturous reception from fans during the Liverpool Legends' 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund equivalents. This event, organised for the LFC Foundation, underscored the ongoing admiration between the manager and supporters. As the Foundation's honorary ambassador, Klopp's involvement highlights his continued commitment to the club's community initiatives.

Reflections on Time and Development

The former manager, who now heads global football at Red Bull, attributed Liverpool's success under his leadership to the patience and time afforded to him. He took charge in October 2015, succeeding Brendan Rodgers, and emphasised the importance of gradual progress. "Everything needs time. Life and in football, it's just that nobody gives you time," Klopp remarked. "We were lucky enough to make immediate steps that everyone could see it was going in the right direction."

He recalled early challenges, such as a draw against West Brom that was celebrated enthusiastically, illustrating the club's evolving spirit. "It all has to develop, has to grow and that is what we did," Klopp explained. He praised the players and strategic signings, noting, "The players, they were fantastic, but to win the Premier League, you need special players and we brought them in step by step, year by year, with money we earned from other transfers and stuff like that."

Enduring Bonds and Future Smiles

Klopp's emotional connection to Liverpool fans was palpable as he shared anecdotes, including interactions with young supporters at the Anfield Community Centre. "And yesterday when I saw these kids at the Anfield Community Centre and they were 10 [saying]: 'I love you more than my dad!' And they were two or one or not even born when I arrived!" he recounted, highlighting the lasting impact of his era.

He concluded with a poignant reflection on the shared joy of his tenure: "Nobody can think back to these nine years without a smile on their face because it was just great. Everything about it, how connected we were. So I understand 100 per cent why people are happy when they see me because I stand for this period. And I am as happy as they are when I see them because they stand for this period [also]."
