Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri has expressed his excitement ahead of this weekend's FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, comparing the Wembley experience to playing at the iconic Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilian shot-stopper has been a key figure in Leeds' cup run, notably saving penalties in the dramatic shootout victory over West Ham.
Perri's Wembley Dream
Perri, who grew up watching English football in Brazil, is relishing the opportunity to play at Wembley. 'It will be like playing at the Maracana, so yeah, it's going to be an incredible experience,' he said. 'I remember watching the FA Cup, the Premier League and the whole of English football. I know the importance of the competition.'
Daring to Dream
While Leeds boss Daniel Farke has suggested it would be unrealistic for his side to win the FA Cup and secure a return to European competition, Perri disagrees. 'Everything's possible in football, so we have to believe. And this journey in the cup has been incredible,' he added. Leeds are aiming to reach their first FA Cup final since 1972.
Familiar Faces
Perri could face fellow Brazilian Joao Pedro in the Chelsea lineup, although Estevao is injured. Perri trained with both players during his first call-up to the Brazil national team in September. 'They're incredible players. It will be a fantastic game, and we're going to have to be at our best,' he said.
