United Defender's Social Media Activity Causes Stir
Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu finds himself at the centre of controversy after his official Instagram account was seen 'liking' a post that openly ridiculed manager Ruben Amorim's tactical decisions.
The 21-year-old Danish left-back faces a more immediate sporting concern, however, as he is just one yellow card away from receiving a one-match Premier League ban.
The Controversial 'Like' and Impending Suspension
The social media post that Dorgu's account interacted with came from the fan page 'mufcunion' and specifically criticised Amorim's use of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in a midfield pivot. It featured a comment from X that stated: "Any coach that sees Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes as a viable pivot is one that isn't serious."
The caption on the Instagram post reinforced this sentiment, declaring "Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro CANNOT play together," and it was this post that received a 'like' from Dorgu's verified account.
This online drama coincides with a critical moment in Dorgu's season. If the defender receives a yellow card in United's upcoming match against Crystal Palace on Sunday, he will be automatically suspended for the team's home fixture against West Ham on Thursday, December 4.
Amorim's Pressing Concerns Beyond Social Media
Manager Ruben Amorim has not yet publicly commented on his player's social media activity, but he undoubtedly has broader issues to address. Manchester United's form has dipped alarmingly, leaving the club languishing in 10th place in the Premier League table.
This represents a significant decline from earlier in the season when the team enjoyed a promising winning streak with victories over Liverpool, Brighton, and Sunderland. That momentum has since stalled following draws against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest, culminating in a disappointing 1-0 loss to Everton.
The defeat at Goodison Park was particularly galling as Everton played with ten men for the majority of the match after Idrissa Gueye's 13th-minute red card for an altercation with his own teammate, Michael Keane. Despite this numerical advantage, United failed to capitalise and conceded a 29th-minute goal to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Amorim acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying of Crystal Palace: "They are a different club [to us] and they are doing things better than us so that is quite simple... They are doing things really well and they play more in transition than us."
With no European football this season, the Portuguese manager emphasised there are "no excuses" for his team's domestic form, stating they must "always win games." The potential unavailability of Dorgu through suspension is another complication Amorim could do without as he seeks to guide United back up the table.
