Male's grandmother was Maria Maud Dowman, the mother of George Male, who captained both Arsenal and England. Through his research, Male determined that Max Dowman is distantly related to George Male via their shared ancestor, William Dowman, born in 1800 in North Benfleet, Essex. Specifically, George Male is the grandson of Christopher Dowman, while Max descends from Christopher's younger brother, William Jr., making them distant cousins.
