Newcastle's 4-1 Rout of Everton: Thiaw Double Seals First Away Win
Newcastle thrash Everton 4-1 in Premier League victory

Newcastle's Away Day Blues Finally End in Everton Demolition

Eddie Howe's Newcastle United delivered a performance of stunning quality and ruthlessness to secure their first Premier League away victory of the season, demolishing Everton 4-1 at Goodison Park. The Magpies scored more goals in this single, devastating evening than in their previous seven away fixtures combined, leaving their manager to ponder why such punishing form took so long to materialise on the road.

Lightning Start Sets the Tone for Dominant Display

The visitors signalled their intent from the very first whistle. Within just 20 seconds, Nick Woltemade and Anthony Elanga combined to force Jordan Pickford into an early save. From the resulting corner, taken by Lewis Miley, Malick Thiaw rose between James Tarkowski and Michael Keane to head home, giving Newcastle the lead after only 55 seconds. This marked the fastest goal scored in the Premier League this season, beating Phil Foden's earlier effort for Manchester City.

Despite a brief period of Everton pressure, Newcastle's defence, which included a well-protected Aaron Ramsdale making his starting debut after Nick Pope's groin injury, stood firm. The hosts' resistance was broken again in calamitous fashion. After more chaos caused by Elanga, a Tino Livramento shot was diverted back to Lewis Miley. His drive from the edge of the area should have been a routine save for Pickford, but the England goalkeeper somehow let the ball slip through his guard and into the net, much to the delight of the travelling Newcastle supporters.

Game Effectively Over by Half-Time

There was no significant response from the beleaguered Toffees. Everton, sorely missing the suspended Idrissa Gueye, were carved open repeatedly in midfield. His replacement, Tim Iroegbunam, endured a torrid first half and was at fault for Newcastle's third goal. He failed to intercept Livramento's pass, allowing Elanga to find the unmarked Nick Woltemade, who lofted a sublime, measured finish over the advancing Pickford to effectively seal the game before the interval.

The second half saw a slight rally from the home side, with substitute Carlos Alcaraz rattling the crossbar. But Newcastle remained a constant threat. After Pickford made two excellent saves to deny Harvey Barnes and Woltemade, Malick Thiaw powered in his second header of the game from Lewis Hall's cross to complete the scoring. A late consolation from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and a disallowed Thierno Barry effort for handball did little to mask what was a comprehensive and impressive mauling by the Magpies.
