Racing expert Newsboy has pinpointed his best bets for a busy Thursday of action across three UK racecourses, with a strong fancy at Chelmsford City taking top billing.
Chelmsford City Nap Ready to Strike
The spotlight falls on Uncle Don in the Sky Bet Matchday Assist Handicap at 8.00 this evening. Trained by Richard Fahey, the four-year-old is selected as the day's best bet, or 'Nap'.
Uncle Don has only one victory to his name, a maiden score at Beverley in July 2024, but has been competing in stronger company for much of his career. His recent form on the all-weather surface offers significant hope. After a promising sixth on his synthetic debut at Newcastle, he finished a close fourth over this evening's seven-furlong trip at Lingfield Park, beaten by less than two lengths.
The handicapper has offered some relief with a 1lb drop to a mark of 85, which is a full 12lb below his peak rating. The assistance of jockey Ethan Tindall, who claims a valuable 7lb, further enhances his chances from the top weight position.
Triggerman Tipped for Southwell Success
At Southwell, Newsboy's next best selection (NB) is Triggerman in the Always Gamble Responsibly At BetMGM Handicap (3.22).
The gelding produced an encouraging performance on his return from a wind operation, finishing a close third behind Blufferonthebus. That run suggested he retains all his ability, and Newsboy believes he is primed to go two places better this afternoon.
