Noa Lang Avoids Amputation After Liverpool Injury, Doctor Says

Galatasaray Forward Noa Lang Escapes Amputation After Serious Finger Injury

Galatasaray winger Noa Lang has avoided having his finger amputated despite suffering a severe injury during his team's Champions League defeat to Liverpool last week. The 26-year-old Dutch international collided with advertising boards at Anfield in the closing moments of the match, which Liverpool won 4-0 in the Round of 16 second leg.

Emergency Surgery and Medical Update

Lang was stretchered off the pitch after receiving oxygen treatment and underwent urgent surgery at Whiston Hospital in Liverpool before returning to Turkey. In a detailed statement, Galatasaray club doctor Yener Ince provided clarification on Lang's condition.

"Our player Noa Lang has suffered a serious injury to the first finger of his right hand," Dr. Ince explained. "I want to clarify that there is no complete amputation; however, the injury is significant. Because this area needed urgent repair, he underwent a successful operation in Liverpool as quickly as possible."

The doctor emphasized that Lang currently appears to have no complications, but the Galatasaray medical team continues to monitor him closely. They are also maintaining communication with the Dutch national team's medical staff, with whom they have established a long-standing relationship.

Recovery Timeline and Return to Play

According to Dr. Ince, Lang will miss the Dutch national team's first upcoming match. Following further assessments, if his condition permits, the club plans for him to return to action in the second match. "We aim for Noa Lang to return to the pitch as soon as possible with a special training program," the doctor added, outlining their rehabilitation strategy.

Galatasaray's Official Complaint and Legal Action

In response to the incident, Galatasaray have lodged an official complaint with UEFA and are considering legal action for compensation. The Super Lig club's general secretary, Eray Yazgan, confirmed these developments to Turkish news outlet HTSport.

"After the match, we lodged a complaint with UEFA representatives regarding the matter," Yazgan stated. "UEFA will evaluate the issue. We are consulting with lawyers. We will submit our compensation claim to UEFA."

Yazgan further indicated that if their request is not adequately addressed, the club may pursue legal action. "Our priority is the health of our players," he emphasized, underscoring the club's commitment to player welfare.

Additional Player Injury and Investigation

Following the match, Liverpool and UEFA officials were observed examining the advertising hoarding where Lang's injury occurred. The incident adds to Galatasaray's injury concerns, as Victor Osimhen also sustained a wrist injury earlier in the same match.

In the same statement, Dr. Ince revealed that Osimhen underwent successful surgery and his recovery will be monitored daily. "Our medical team will do everything necessary to ensure his return to the pitch as soon as possible," he assured, noting that updates would be shared publicly by the club.

Lang had entered the match as a halftime substitute for Osimhen, who was forced off due to his wrist injury. The double injury blow compounds Galatasaray's challenges following their Champions League exit.
