Los Angeles Rams Receiver Puka Nacua Sued Over Antisemitism and Biting Claims
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has been hit with a civil lawsuit alleging assault, battery, and gender violence. The legal action, filed this week in Los Angeles, stems from incidents that reportedly occurred on New Year's Eve.
Details of the Allegations
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, plaintiff Madison Atiabi claims Nacua made an antisemitic comment that caused her emotional distress while they were together in Century City. Later that night, in a van, Atiabi alleges Nacua bit her on the shoulder, leaving visible teeth marks. She further states that Nacua also bit her friend's thumb during the same encounter.
The lawsuit, filed by attorney Joseph Kar, also cites negligence alongside the assault and battery charges. These serious allegations come as Nacua, one of the NFL's rising stars, faces potential legal and professional repercussions.
Nacua's Defense and Past Controversy
Nacua's attorney, Levi McCathern, has vehemently denied the antisemitism allegations, stating his client made no such remarks. Regarding the biting incidents, McCathern characterized them as "horseplay" rather than malicious acts.
This is not the first time Nacua has faced accusations of antisemitic behavior. In December, he issued a public apology after performing a gesture on an internet livestream that perpetuated antisemitic tropes. On Instagram, Nacua wrote: "I had no idea this act was antisemitic in nature and perpetuated harmful stereotypes against Jewish people. I deeply apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions as I do not stand for any form of racism, bigotry or hate of another group of people."
Career Implications for the Rams Star
Puka Nacua has emerged as one of the most productive receivers in NFL history during his first three seasons with the Rams. Drafted out of BYU in 2023 with the final pick of the fifth round, Nacua led the league last season with 129 receptions, accumulating 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns. He continued his dominant performance in the playoffs, leading the NFL again with 24 catches for 332 yards and two touchdowns.
The timing of this lawsuit is particularly significant as Nacua becomes eligible for a contract extension this offseason. Any new deal would likely make him one of the highest-paid receivers in NFL history, but the Rams have not announced any progress on negotiations amid these legal developments.
The outcome of this case could have substantial implications for Nacua's career trajectory and reputation, both on and off the field, as he navigates these serious allegations while maintaining his status as a key player for the Los Angeles Rams.
