Manchester United Legend Calls for £65m Midfield Hijack

Manchester United have received a clear transfer directive from club legend Bryan Robson, who has urged the Red Devils to beat bitter rivals Manchester City to the signing of England sensation Elliot Anderson this summer. The Nottingham Forest midfielder is expected to command a fee in the region of £65 million, with multiple top clubs reportedly interested in securing his services.

Robson Identifies Casemiro Replacement

Robson's recommendation comes as Manchester United prepare for the departure of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who will leave Old Trafford at the conclusion of the current season. Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Robson expressed his disappointment at losing the experienced midfielder.

"I'm disappointed that Manchester United are going to lose Casemiro, because I think he is a really good player," Robson stated. "He has turned his career around at United. He has been good defensively and going forward, and he's really good in the air. He reads games well and he's a great passer. His ability to turn the ball round the corner into the forwards is top drawer."

The former United captain believes Anderson represents the ideal solution to fill the void left by Casemiro's impending exit. "(To replace Casemiro), I'd like Elliott Anderson to sign for Manchester United. He'd be my first choice signing," Robson emphasized. "They're not going to get Declan Rice from Arsenal, and that makes Anderson my first choice."

City Leading the Race for Forest Star

According to reports, Manchester City currently hold pole position in the pursuit of Anderson, with the midfielder understood to be leaning towards the Etihad Stadium as his preferred destination. However, Robson has called on United to intervene and hijack the proposed transfer, potentially sparking a fierce bidding war between the Manchester rivals.

Robson acknowledged that securing Anderson's signature would not be straightforward, suggesting alternative options if United fail to land their primary target. "If they can't get him, Sandro Tonali is the player everybody is talking about, but I can understand why Newcastle wouldn't allow him to leave," he noted.

The United legend also expressed concerns about the club's recent recruitment record, adding: "There has to be somebody out there who can be a really good player to replace Casemiro. The United scouts have to do their job and replace him, but they haven't been good at that over the past few years."

Carrick Endorsement for Permanent Role

In addition to his transfer recommendations, Robson offered strong support for interim manager Michael Carrick to be appointed permanently if he secures Champions League qualification for the club. Carrick has overseen a significant improvement in United's fortunes since taking temporary charge earlier this season.

"If Michael Carrick gets Manchester United into the Champions League, they should give him the job permanently," Robson asserted. "He deserves it when you look at where they were when he took over. Some people are getting carried away and saying he should only get the job if they finish third, but for me I think he should get the job if they qualify for the Champions League."

Robson highlighted Carrick's previous interim stint as evidence of his capabilities, recalling: "When he was interim manager the last time, he played three tough games against Villarreal, Chelsea and Arsenal, and he didn't lose a game. This time he's changed the balance of the team and based on the results so far, he deserves the job."

The summer transfer window promises to be crucial for Manchester United as they seek to rebuild their midfield following Casemiro's departure while potentially securing a permanent manager appointment. Robson's dual recommendations regarding both player recruitment and managerial stability reflect the significant decisions facing the club hierarchy in the coming months.
