Mohamed Salah Claims Liverpool 'Threw Me Under the Bus' Ahead of Potential Anfield Exit
Salah: Liverpool 'threw me under the bus' in explosive interview

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has launched a stunning public attack on the club's hierarchy, claiming he has been 'thrown under the bus' and revealing he has no relationship with manager Arne Slot. The Egyptian superstar, 33, suggested next week's match against Brighton could be his final appearance at Anfield.

Bench Role Sparks Explosive Outburst

The controversy erupted after Salah was named on the substitutes' bench for the third consecutive match during Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday 6 December 2025. In a remarkable seven-and-a-half minute interview with the Press Association after the game, an emotional Salah expressed his profound disappointment and sense of betrayal.

'I don't know what to say,' Salah stated. 'It's funny but I couldn't believe it. That I'm sitting on the bench for 90 minutes! The third time on the bench, I think for the first time in my career.' He directly linked his demotion to broken promises, saying, 'I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am on the bench for three games so I can't say they keep the promise.'

'No Relationship' with Slot and Farewell Plans

Salah, who has won two Premier League titles and the Champions League since his 2017 arrival from Roma, delivered a bombshell regarding his rapport with the Dutch coach. 'I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don't have any relationship,' he revealed. 'Yeah, there's no relationship between us.'

He has instructed his family to attend the upcoming Brighton fixture, hinting it may be a farewell. 'I called my mum yesterday... I said to them, come to the Brighton game. I don't know if I am going to play or not but I am going to enjoy it. In my head, I'm going to enjoy that game because I don't know what is going to happen now.' Salah will join the Egypt squad for the Africa Cup of Nations on 15 December, leaving his future shrouded in doubt.

A Legacy Player Feeling Unprotected

The 2024/25 season's standout performer expressed hurt at being forced to defend his position. 'I don't know why last season's best player has to defend himself in front of the media and fans. It is not acceptable for me,' he argued. He feels the club is making him a scapegoat, stating, 'It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus... I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.'

While he sidestepped questions about interest from Saudi Arabia, Salah did not rule out a departure. 'I cannot say it is impossible (to solve), but from what I feel, I have done so much for the club... I don't know what is going to happen next.' He insisted there were no issues with his teammates, placing the blame squarely on figures higher up at the club.
