Strasbourg Supporters Furious Over Rosenior's Chelsea Move
Liam Rosenior has severely damaged his reputation at Strasbourg following his controversial departure to Chelsea in January, according to the club's supporters' federation. Alexandre, spokesperson for the Strasbourg Supporters' Federation, has revealed the depth of fan anger towards the English coach, describing his comments since leaving as "stupid" and deeply hurtful to the Ligue 1 faithful.
'Clearly Negative' Feelings Towards Former Manager
When questioned about current fan sentiment towards Rosenior, Alexandre told football.london: "Well, it's clearly negative. There were a lot of people who were really disappointed, not only by the fact that he left in such a manner, but also about his comments. He made a very stupid comment saying that we should be proud to have a manager who went on to be at Chelsea."
The former Hull and Brighton defender had built a strong reputation at Strasbourg, winning praise for implementing an attractive style of football and achieving solid results despite working with one of the youngest squads in European football. However, a difficult run of form in November and December 2025 preceded his move to Stamford Bridge after Enzo Maresca's departure on New Year's Day.
Offensive Remarks and Broken Promises
Alexandre elaborated on the specific comments that have angered supporters: "He was saying all the right things and he was telling everybody what they want to hear and then he left in such a manner and he made these really stupid comments. So we see him very negatively right now."
The spokesperson also addressed Rosenior's claim that the French public had been overly critical of him during his time at Strasbourg: "And then he also said something in his first press conference at Chelsea, about the French public being very critical of him. And that was not the case."
Multi-Club Ownership Fuels Further Resentment
The situation is further complicated by the ownership structure linking the two clubs. Both Chelsea and Strasbourg are under the control of parent company BlueCo, which has already facilitated the transfer of promising Strasbourg talents Mamadou Sarr and Emmanuel Emegha to the London club, with the latter scheduled to move this summer.
Strasbourg supporters have been vocal in their opposition to what they perceive as their club being transformed into an unofficial Chelsea reserve side. The club's ultras stage a silent protest during the first 15 minutes of every match, refusing to sing or chant as a demonstration against the current ownership model.
Calls for Complete Separation Between Clubs
When asked whether fans have accepted the inevitability of losing their best players to Chelsea, Alexandre responded: "Well, we do not feel resigned. I mean, we know it's going to happen with this ownership and we hate it because we are against multi-club ownership and we think that multi-club ownership should be banned."
He continued with a clear demand: "And that's why we are fighting this ownership so that it doesn't happen anymore. We know that as long as BlueCo is there, that's going to be the rule. But the real solution is to kick BlueCo out."
Rosenior's Chelsea Tenure Faces Challenges
Despite beginning his Chelsea tenure with four consecutive Premier League victories, Rosenior's positive start has evaporated amid disappointing domestic form and an embarrassing 8-2 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Alexandre suggested that Rosenior may have been approaching his managerial limits towards the end of his Strasbourg spell: "He was playing some high-risk entertaining football and he also had a very decent series of results in the spring of 2025. The last two or three months of 2025 were a bit more difficult for him, just before he went to Chelsea, so it seemed that he was kind of reaching his ceiling."
Chelsea currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, six points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, with challenging fixtures against Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham still to come as they fight for Champions League qualification.
