Former England and Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has delivered a powerful endorsement of manager Thomas Tuchel, claiming the Three Lions now possess the final piece needed to win a major tournament.
‘In Thomas We Trust’: Wilshere’s Firm Belief
In an exclusive interview, the 33-year-old revealed he told his father that England fans must place their faith in the German tactician. Wilshere, who suffered the personal disappointment of missing out on the 2018 World Cup squad, believes the years of searching for a top-tier manager to match the team's talent are finally over.
"I said to my dad: ‘Thomas is there and in Thomas we trust,’" Wilshere stated. "Let’s trust him, you see what he’s doing with the team. For years, I think everyone was looking and saying: ‘we’ve got the best team, the best players, can we get the best coach now.’ I feel we’re there with that."
While cautious not to make outright guarantees, the former prodigy emphasised that the combination of a world-class coach and a gifted squad makes England more dangerous than ever. He pointed to the creative options, deep-lying midfielders, and the undeniable quality on the flanks, all spearheaded by captain Harry Kane.
A Midfield Masterclass and Serbia Victory
Wilshere highlighted England's recent 2-0 victory over Serbia, where goals from Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze sealed the win, as evidence of the team's positive evolution. He joked about his close analysis of the match, noting, "I watched it closely enough to know that Arsenal won the game!" in reference to Saka's contribution.
His praise, however, extended beyond the scorers to the heart of the team. He was effusive in his admiration for the midfield partnership of Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson.
"I love Dec. Everyone knows my relationship with Dec but take that away and I think he’s outstanding," Wilshere said. "Is he a six, is an eight or a ten? He can do everything. We need to create midfielders that do that. Anderson next to him, I think he’s outstanding because he can do everything. He tries to play forward. He’s got a lot of quality."
The Final Piece of the Puzzle
For Wilshere, the appointment of Thomas Tuchel represents the crucial element that has been missing from previous England campaigns. He contends that the nation has long boasted one of the most talented pools of players in world football but lacked the elite-level coaching to guide them to the ultimate prize.
That excuse, he firmly believes, is no longer valid. With a top, top coach at the helm and a squad brimming with versatility and attacking threat, Wilshere is convinced that England are genuine contenders to lift the World Cup next summer, bringing a 60-year wait for glory on the biggest stage to a dramatic close.
