Darts Star Luke Littler Expresses Boxing Ambition
Luke Littler, the teenage darts sensation and current world number one, has made a surprising admission about his sporting future. The 19-year-old two-time PDC World Champion has revealed a strong desire to lace up boxing gloves and step into the ring, though he faces significant opposition from a key person in his life.
Boxing Aspirations and Domestic Resistance
Speaking to DAZN, Littler confirmed his interest in competing under the Misfits boxing banner, potentially in a one-off event. "I'd love to, but the missus does not want me to," Littler confessed. "I'd love to, a one-off definitely, on Misfits." When pressed about who he might face in the ring, the darts star gave a characteristically direct response: "Anyone."
Littler's boxing interest was piqued during a recent trip to Liverpool, where he watched friend and middleweight boxer Luke Turner defeat Jensen Irving on the undercard of Nick Ball's bout against Brandon Figueroa. The experience clearly left an impression on the young darts champion.
Recent Darts Form and Analysis
Littler's boxing revelation comes during a period of mixed results in his primary sport. After winning his second world championship title by beating Gian van Veen at Alexandra Palace last month, Littler claimed victories at both the Saudi Masters and World Masters in Milton Keynes. However, he suffered an early exit in the Premier League opener last Thursday, losing 6-4 to van Veen in Newcastle.
Former professional darts player Matt Edgar has identified potential vulnerabilities in Littler's game. "He's vulnerable on the ProTour - it's the same format, and Luke struggles there," Edgar told OLBG. "We've seen at times at the World Matchplay him going 5-0 down. He doesn't have time in the Premier League. Maybe this is where we are going to see Luke not be as dominant."
Expert Perspectives on Littler's Performance
Darts content creator Charlie Murphy offered a more optimistic assessment of Littler's prospects. "I don't think it's going to continue for Luke to lose round one games," Murphy stated. "I think he can switch it on when he really needs to and when he really wants to. It's night one - did it really matter to him? Yeah, he probably wanted to win, but there's that subconsciousness as well, where he knows it's not that important."
Despite the recent setback, Littler's career trajectory remains remarkable. Since reaching his first World Championship final, he has shown few weaknesses either on or off the oche, establishing himself as one of darts' most dominant young talents.
Looking Ahead
Littler's immediate focus returns to darts as he prepares to face world number two and former champion Luke Humphries on the second night of the Premier League in Antwerp this Thursday evening. The match represents an opportunity for Littler to bounce back from his opening night defeat and reassert his dominance in the sport.
Whether Littler will eventually pursue his boxing ambitions remains uncertain, particularly given his girlfriend's opposition to the idea. For now, the darts world will watch with interest to see if this multi-sport curiosity develops into something more substantial, or remains merely a passing interest for the young champion.
