Brisbane Broncos enforcer Payne Haas is considering an immediate exit from the NRL after being presented with a staggering $3million contract offer from the rebel rugby union competition R360.

The monumental offer comes as the 25-year-old prop prepares to represent Samoa against New Zealand in Sunday's Pacific Championship final at Sydney's Commbank Stadium. Reports confirm Haas has been offered what sources describe as "life-changing money" to abandon rugby league.
Should Haas accept the R360 proposal, it would effectively terminate his NRL career due to the competition's likely imposition of 10-year bans on players who defect. However, the financial incentive is substantial - the switch could ultimately see the forward earn up to $10million across his rugby union career.
Family circumstances and cultural connection
The potential move carries additional weight given Haas's personal circumstances. Both of his parents are currently incarcerated, making him the sole guardian of his two younger siblings while also being a father himself.
His experience with the Samoan national team appears to have made a significant impact. Samoan captain Jarome Luai confirmed Haas has thoroughly enjoyed his time in camp, particularly embracing the cultural aspects.
"I can see he is enjoying himself," Luai observed. "I think it's a bit of a different side to what he's used to with all the cultural stuff - speaking in Samoan, doing the dances. I think it's really brought the kid out of him in a way."
Coach's perspective and growing exodus
Premiership-winning coach Michael Maguire expressed uncertainty about Haas's intentions but emphasised the player's connection to the Broncos. "I'm not sure where Payne is with R360, but I know he really loves the Broncos," Maguire stated. "He has been through everything at this club... Payne is focused on jumping into another season."
The R360 competition, scheduled to launch next October, is already attracting significant NRL talent. Warriors star and Haas's Samoan teammate Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has already committed to the new code, while Melbourne Storm's Ryan Papenhuyzen is reportedly contemplating a stint playing rugby in Japan before joining R360 after being granted a release from his club.
