Thousands of Facebook and Instagram users have reported being unexpectedly logged out of their accounts this afternoon as Meta grapples with a significant system outage.
Surge in Outage Reports
A massive wave of technical complaints was recorded on the website downforeveryoneorjustme.com, where reports peaked at 9,245 at 2pm from individuals struggling to access the Meta-owned platforms.
The disruption has impacted users globally today, with widespread problems reported across several countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, the Philippines, Australia, and Bulgaria, according to The Mirror.
Downdetector Also Affected
Downdetector, the website millions rely on to track online outages, also appears to be experiencing issues. This comes amid the ongoing Meta disruption affecting access to both Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Users Vent on Reddit
People unable to access Facebook have turned to Reddit to express their frustration. A Reddit post titled “Is Facebook down for everyone? It just suddenly booted me out of it and Messenger” garnered over 900 replies as users shared their experiences.
- “Also got logged out. Good to know its not just me,” one user wrote.
- “Thought I got hacked and lost it all lol,” said another.
- “Just got forced logged out from both messenger and the regular app. In Germany, if that matters. Apparently it's happening, like, everywhere at the moment,” added a third.
- “Suddenly booted out of the app while in a call on a browser, then the call froze. followed by IG not loading. Meta is down for the count!” a fourth person commented.
The outage continues to affect users worldwide, with no immediate resolution announced by Meta.
