New research has identified Bank of America as the provider offering the most superior mobile credit card experience for customers in the United Kingdom, outperforming nine of its leading competitors. The findings come from the Keynova Group's third annual Mobile Credit Card Scorecard, released on Friday, 5 December 2025.
Bank of America and US Bank Secure Leading Positions
The comprehensive study evaluated ten of the nation's top credit card issuers across four key categories and five common user tasks. Bank of America clinched first place overall and also ranked top for its dedicated mobile application. US Bank secured the leading position for its mobile web platform and achieved second place in both the overall and app categories.
Beth Robertson, Managing Director at Keynova Group, stated that the bank's success highlights a wider industry shift towards more user-friendly services. "Issuers are strengthening the mobile credit card experience on all fronts," she explained in a press release, noting the expansion of digital tools designed to enhance rewards and improve customer retention.
What Set the Winning Banks Apart?
Robertson detailed to The Independent that Bank of America excelled by providing outstanding access to tools and features directly within its app. This includes its virtual assistant, Erica, and an embedded browser that allows users to compare cards, access product information in Spanish, and apply for new products without ever leaving the application. The bank also scored highly on factors related to cardholder acquisition.
Meanwhile, US Bank's investment in its mobile web platform paid off, with enhancements like a Smart Assistant and a customer dashboard for tracking disputes and balance transfers. "U.S. Bank’s mobile web channel also supports useful card actions such as card lock, digital wallet management, and digital transaction receipts," Robertson added.
Industry Trends: Shopping Tools and Transparency
The study identified significant trends across the sector, with issuers heavily focused on developing digital features that encourage card spending. A key area of growth is in digital shopping tools; nearly a third of the issuers examined now offer a dedicated shopping app or browser extension. Capital One was highlighted as a pioneer in this space with its Capital One Shopping platform.
Another emerging priority is transaction transparency. Six out of the ten banks studied now provide some form of digital receipt access via their apps or mobile sites. Furthermore, issuers are enriching transaction details by including merchant addresses, phone numbers, map-based locations, and purchaser names for accounts with multiple cards.
The other major issuers included in the benchmark were American Express, Barclays US, Capital One, Chase, Citibank, Discover, PNC, and Wells Fargo.
