A popular coffee brand has issued a significant product recall across ten American states after it was discovered that its supposedly decaffeinated pods contained caffeine. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has now escalated the safety warning, classifying the recall as a potential health risk.
Details of the Gimme Coffee Recall
Gimme Coffee, Inc., based in New York, first announced a voluntary recall for its 'Gimme! Decaf de Agua Coffee Pods' in October. The recall was initiated when testing revealed the pods were not decaffeinated as labelled. Last week, the FDA elevated the situation, reclassifying it as a Class II risk.
According to FDA guidelines, a Class II recall means that exposure to the violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or the probability of serious harm is remote. While the product is safe for most adults, it presents a clear danger to individuals with caffeine sensitivity, hypertension, or certain medical conditions.
How to Identify the Affected Products
Consumers are urged to check their kitchens for the specific batch. The recall affects 252 boxes, each containing 10 pods. The products can be identified by the following markers:
- UPC Code: 051497457990
- Outer Packaging Best-By Date: October 15, 2025
- Inner Packaging Best-By Date: September 30, 2025
The boxes were distributed to retail locations in Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Consumer Advice and Company Response
The FDA notes that up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day—roughly two to three cups of coffee—is generally safe for healthy adults. However, unintended consumption by those avoiding caffeine could lead to adverse effects.
As of October 24, the company had not received any consumer complaints related to the mix-up. Customers who have purchased the recalled pods are advised to stop using them immediately. They should either contact Gimme Coffee directly for a return or replacement, or take the product back to the place of purchase for a refund.

A Separate Coffee Recall Earlier This Year
This incident follows another significant coffee recall in 2025. In a separate case, Dollar General recalled specific lots of its Clover Valley Instant Coffee over fears the jars could contain fragments of glass.
That recall, which affected products sold nationwide in July, was prompted by a customer report. The FDA warned that ingesting glass could cause serious injury. No illnesses were reported in that case either.
These consecutive recalls highlight the importance of robust product safety and labelling protocols in the food and beverage industry, urging consumers to stay vigilant about recall notices.
