Iceland's Easter Lamb Dinner Box: A Stress-Free Feast for Four
Iceland has reintroduced their popular roast dinner in a box, just in time for Easter, following a sell-out success at Christmas. This year, shoppers can choose between a Lamb Dinner and a Chicken Dinner option, offering a convenient solution for holiday hosting.
Unboxing the Generous Offer
Upon arrival, the box was impressively large and heavy, raising initial concerns about freezer storage. However, all items are individually packaged, allowing for easy distribution across multiple freezer drawers. The contents are substantial, featuring a half leg of lamb weighing 1.22kg, a bag of Iceland Ridiculously Crispy Roast Potatoes, four Luxury Beef Dripping Yorkshire Puddings, Honey Glazed Parsnips, a carrot, broccoli, and pea mix, 12 Pigs in Blankets, and 300g of Iceland Luxury Beef Gravy.
Value for money is evident, as purchasing these items separately would cost nearly £40, resulting in a £10 saving before any cooking begins.
Effortless Cooking Experience
As a first-time lamb roast preparer, the detailed instructions provided on the box and an accompanying timing guide made the process straightforward and stress-free. Starting around 1:30 PM, dinner was ready by just after 5 PM, with minimal active kitchen time compared to a traditional Sunday roast.
This convenience allowed for extra quality time with family, such as spending two additional hours with a young daughter, which was invaluable. While there was a hectic 30-minute period near serving time involving oven, hob, and microwave use, this is typical for any roast dinner preparation.
Taste and Quality Assessment
The lamb was juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked, with portions generous enough to serve four adults plus leftovers for sandwiches. The inclusion of Pigs in Blankets was a pleasant surprise, featuring herby sausages wrapped in crispy, salty bacon.
Roast potatoes were soft and fluffy but lacked maximum crispiness, potentially due to oven sharing with the lamb at a lower heat. Similarly, the honey glazed parsnips were flavorful and sweet but required extra time to achieve ideal crispiness, which was challenging with a toddler demanding attention.
Standout items included the Yorkshire puddings, described as the best ever, with a perfect crispy exterior and spectacular taste. The gravy, initially smelling odd, transformed into a rich, thick, and flavorful sauce when enhanced with lamb juices, though more quantity was desired.
Final Verdict and Availability
Overall, Iceland's £30 Easter lamb dinner box is impressive for its value, ease of preparation, and generous portions, earning a solid eight out of ten. It offers busy parents a chance to enjoy a festive meal without compromising on taste or family time.
Available from Tuesday, 24th March, while stocks last, in-store and online at Iceland and The Food Warehouse.
